This study was carried out by Oesser and colleagues in Germany in 2016 which was published in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage 24 (2016) S63-S534. 2 groups of individuals were involved in this study: one being athletes of a mean age of 24 with activity related knee pain; the other group being men and women of mean age of 50 suffering from functional knee and hip pain.

These individuals were treated with 5g bioactive collagen peptides daily over a period of 12 weeks. Results were very significant. The athletes group showed a significant reduced in joint pain by 37.5% . The other group of individuals suffering from knee and hip pain showed a significant improvement in pain during walking by 38% and pain at rest by 39%.
